Environmental Health Issues Today
We are facing environmental health issues today in shape of Global warming, unsafe drinking water, poor indoor and outdoor air quality, and contaminated food supplies are just some of the major problems we are currently experiencing. These problems may seem overwhelming, they may seem inevitable and unavoidable, but it is we who have all the power to prevent or solve these problems. We are the ones who have all the power to reduce pollution, limit our exposure and, most importantly, strengthen our bodies and our environmental systems to resist pollution.
Try to improve your quality of life by decreasing your contribution to pollution. A good example would be to reject the thermostat during the winter; in doing so, it will decrease carbon dioxide emissions and also improve indoor air quality.
The Use of HVAC (Heating Ventilating & Air Conditioning):
As using at high levels will redistribute contaminants within a building. To avoid the use of HVAC, try to wear suitable clothing for the temperature. For example, instead of turning on the heater during cold days, simply wear a thick jacket to save electricity; Not only will you save electricity, but your body’s immune system will be strengthened and trained to live in harmony with nature.
Safe Pesticides and Cleaning Products:
While it is recommended to avoid pesticides completely, if you use them, use biodegradable and safe pesticides. When it comes to cleaning agents, you should also use biodegradable and safe cleaning agents. When cleaning your residence, it is best to limit the use of chemicals to avert the entry of contaminants. The biodegradable products will also keep your water supplies secure to drink.
Exposure to Contaminants:
If possible, try and limit your exposure to contaminants. The human body is designed to process at a specific level of contamination. Environmental health problems are the result of exposure to levels that are too high for the body to process. As it is always important to lower the levels, if there are already some contaminants present, precautions should be taken to limit exposure. A good method to avoid exposure to lung diseases is to ventilate your home.
Using a HEPA filter vacuum in your home will eliminate paint chips that will protect your children from lead poisoning. Another way to limit your exposure to chemicals is to make sure that the building materials, clothing, furniture, and other products you use on a daily basis are made only of materials that do not emit chemicals. Perfume and smoke are also pollutants. A perfume-free and smoke-free environment are protections against exposure.
It is always better to eat natural and organic foods, and also to drink clean water and exercise in clean environments; you should always know that you are eating. There are types of fish that are caught in certain areas that have contaminants such as mercury in their tissues; This can cause some developmental problems in fetuses.
Although pesticides increase the yield of crops, but these also increase the presence of contaminants in our water and soil either. The installation of a water filter system will ensure that drinking water is clean.
Always remember that eating naturally will decrease exposure to contaminants.
